ANNIVERSARIES

Time is passing by, but we can still hear Igor Shamo’s music. His memory is embalmed in our hearts. A memorial plate on the occasion of 70 years from the composer’s birthday was placed in 1995 (Council of Ministers of Ukraine) on the house at number 8 Kostelnaya Street where the composer lived with his family from 1968 till 1982. And in 2000 a high relief (sculptor: V. Medvedev) on the occasion of 75 years from the composer’s birthday was placed.
A high relief was mounted by initiative and with financial assistance of the composer’s children and Jewish Union of Ukraine.

From 1982 according to the decree of the Council of Ministers of Ukraine the 7th Kiev regional music school was named after Igor Shamo (director: A.K. Loyko). On the 75th anniversary of Igor Shamo in 2000 and on the 80th anniversary in 2005 the anniversary envelopes were issued.

On occasion of the 75-th composer’s anniversary the series of jubilee concerts were held in Teacher’s House and Ukrainian House. The meetings with the composer’s children in National Library for children were organized, the radio broadcasts were prepared as well as the articles in the press were written.

On the 80-th composer’s anniversary in 2005 a scientific conference and festive concert organized by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the P. Chaikovsky national music academy, National Composers’ Union of Ukraine were held. Also, a chamber symphonic concert in National Philharmonic Society of Ukraine organized by Kyiv Town Department of Culture, National Composers’ Union and Civic Initiative Association was held.

In 2005 the Igor Shamo Charitable Fund was established
(the composer’s daughter – Tamara Shamo – is the president).
